Parging is your foundation's raincoat. Most of Toronto's is torn.

That cement coat on the exposed top of your foundation isn't decorative. It seals the block or concrete underneath from water and frost. When parging cracks, hollows or sheds in sheets, the foundation underneath starts taking the weather directly.

Bad parging fails fast because of bad prep, which is why so much of it in Toronto is flaking after a couple of winters. We remove loose material completely, prep and bond properly, and apply a coat finished smooth or textured to suit the house. Cracked foundations get assessed honestly first, and where there's real movement we'll point you to our foundation repair service instead of hiding it under fresh cement.

Parging questions, answered

It's the protective cement coat applied over the exposed portion of your foundation. It seals out water and frost and gives the foundation a finished look.
Almost always prep. New parging troweled over dirty, loose or unbonded surfaces peels within a winter or two. We strip back to sound material first, which is the unglamorous step that makes it last.
We can, but we won't hide a structural problem. If a crack shows movement or leaks, we'll tell you and address the cause first. Cosmetic cracks get properly filled and coated.
